Anna Sadovnikova, PhD, IBCLC, MPH, MA
Mammary gland biologist and Adjunct Professor of Breastfeeding Medicine
About Me
I'm Dr. Anna Sadovnikova, a physician-scientist specializing in lactation medicine, medical education, and diagnostic innovation. My work sits at the intersection of clinical care, research, and education—where I'm driven to improve maternal-child health outcomes through innovative diagnostic approaches and evidence-based practices.
My journey began at UC Berkeley with degrees in Molecular Biology and Comparative Literature, followed by graduate work at the University of Michigan where I earned my MPH in Human Nutrition and MA in Russian/Eastern European Studies. My passion for understanding the biological mechanisms of lactation led me to complete my MD/PhD in Mammary Gland Biology at UC Davis. I opened my clinical practice as a board-certified lactation consultant (IBCLC) in 2018 and will launch my breastfeeding medicine practice in 2026.
I've dedicated my career to addressing persistent gaps in women's health. I founded and led LiquidGoldConcept, developing high-fidelity simulators for clinical lactation training used in over 30 countries. My research focuses on improving diagnostic approaches for nipple conditions during lactation, combining optical imaging technologies with microbiome analysis to create non-invasive diagnostic tools.
Currently, I serve as Director of Research Education and Adjunct Professor for the world's first breastfeeding medicine fellowship at the University of Rochester, where I mentor the next generation of specialists in research methods specific to breastfeeding medicine.
When I'm not in the clinic or lab, you might find me exploring nature with or reading books to my kiddos—Max and Adeline.
I believe deeply in advancing women's health through rigorous science, compassionate care, and innovative education. I'm always open to new collaborations that further this mission.

I’m always looking for new opportunities to collaborate, educate, and learn.
